Chinese Whispers ... a summer perspective

Image
Summer's ending, schools have started and the studio is where I am heading with a wee skip in my step. (We've been apart for too many moons!!) Over the last three months, work has had a strange staccato rhythm with interruptions sometimes hitting very loud fortissimos. The emphasis now is on creating a beautiful flowing melody with strong Vivaldi tones and Beethoven hues. "Chinese Whispers" is the result of this interesting mix of working rhythms and scribbling hours. I love this drawing simply because it's all about perspective, emotion and lazy manic summer days. Hello 2013

Image
Yeah! 2013 is here ! 2012 was a year in which I believe I stood too still. Enjoying my comfort zone a tad too much... artistically not taking risks, trying too please, my curiosity asleep. 2012 is being archived just after this post. 2013 is when I step FORWARD pick up my pencils out of our snug comfort zone and into a colder  unknown & un-tackled world that we have ignored for too long To prove my point, here's "Touched" my brand new drawing. An amass of verticals and horizontals, stark and dramatic yet soft and tender. A mix of contrast, texture and shapes. A study of both equine and human body language. A little girl lost safely in the world of big gentle equines. " Touched " Pencil on Paper. 57x44 cm. "Agape Touch" my latest pencil drawing.

What should never ever have happened just did! I pressed "publish" instead of "save now" and all of you received an unfinished and non illustrated blog post. Bowing my beetroot red face in shame... Here below the unfinished non edited unworked shambles of words and ideas accidentally published: I had no intention of winging about my scanner, really...! Finished and over the moon with my new piece. This was a moment I captured a few years back. The two subjects depicted are so very close to my heart. The horse is my 21 year old Swedish halfblood mare and one of the most amazing horses I have ever had the privilege of knowing. The wee girl: my oldest daughter. A drawing does not get more personal. Scanner has let me down.... It's age is showing and performance very iffy Detail from "Agape Touch" Agape Touch Pencil on Paper 36x 39 cm Sheona Hamilton-Grant. All rights reserved. "Grégoire ".

"Grégoire" Pencil on Paper. 18x24 cm Sold Sheona Hamilton-Grant. 2010. All rights reserved. Two weeks ago I was in Brussels delivering these golden curls and receiving a mother's seal of approval. Child portraits are something so delicate and mesmerizing to create. I was on tender hooks throughout the entire portrait. Drawing the soft pure and innocent features of a child requires accuracy and very high concentration. Well, I felt that's what I wanted to give this gorgeous wee chap. Gregoire (French for Gregory )has just turned two. He's a wee boy with bundles of energy and sunshine smiles. Being the youngest of three boys he is not into being left behind... Emphisizing his sunny nature and energy were crucial to the success of this portrait. Through this pose, a summer feeling of energy and fun was created and his surfer curls subtly emphasised. Having him look away from the viewer adds a certain sense of movement and his eagerness to "get on". I was r...
