Wee peek into new studio

Image
Now all  the boxes are gone thought you might like to have a wee insider peek of one of my favorite places. The drawing board This is where I stand and scribble for hours with passion. Behind on the windowsill are Kim Santini' s beautiful portraits of Jess. On the back of the board Sallie Gardner at a gallop .  Sequence of photographs taken 1878 by Eadweard Muybridge. Always loved these photographs and was thrilled to find a wall Tattoo to liven up my small  all important drawing board.   Adored yellow sofa.   This is where the sun shines and the inspiration and knowledge fed (piles of art books and sketch pads on and under table).   Usually shared with a cat and other family members ;) Desk It had to be big so it's U shaped.  Decided to not stage a shot and this is usually the way it looks just before starting a new drawing, after having finished, invoiced and catalogued a complet...

Leaving their mark

Image
That strange things can and may occur overnight in the studio, is a fact. Three days ago my blue tack took on a new shape and went all lost symbol on me. Giggling, I asked Jess for help. Lo and behold she pointed me in the right a direction, with a questionning look in her eyes. In her catty mind the culprits were so very obvious. Wilbur & Bernadette (the 2 studio rascals) Discover more about my mad studio assistants here , here and here . Wilbur and Bernadette , bored of not being entertained as much as they are used to, bashfully decided to leave me a special "impossible to ignore" message... I love subtle hints and really there is only one thing for it: take their hint to heart, pump-up the volume and get back to the scribbling front asap....

Behind the (studio) scenes with Wilbur and Bernadette

Vacuum in hand (spring cleaning has come early and the studio is the first to be "attacked"), I realised I have neglected to keep you up to speed on the two Black on Grey on White studio wooden rascals (to be honest both have been throwing subtle hints such as "not had to pose for the camera for aaaaages"- " how's the blog?" - "can we say hi to the world too?" (...)!!!!) . Both Bernadette and Wilbur are fine and dandy and have been dealing with the long winter months in their own special way. They are quite inspirational in a indirect sort of way. Both treat me, daily, to all sorts of strange visions and enjoyable interruptions: impossible to photograph head banging rock moves , energetic aerobic positions as well as sweet loving glances (enjoyed so much I was treated to two poses during the shoot!). I reckon there is very little chance they will ever behave enough for me to use them as serious figure models (too boring!) On the other han...

Bernadette

Wilbur, bless him, decided to stay behind in April and "man" the studio. Personally, I'm convinced he got stage fright and wanted to blast out some way-out music and dance is socks off. Once across the border, his absence was noticed. Thankfully, while out hunting for last minute supplies, I bumped into Bernadette. Bernadette, lying along side tubes of oil paints and miniature canvases, caught my eye or did she wink? Whatever she did made me smile and continued to do so while sitting on my passenger seat as she tapped her wooden hand rhythmically to the Foo's. Wilbur has met his match. The doll is "mid-way mad". A few pics of her in action to prove it. She disappeared one quiet morning leaving her spot of choice (centre stage) to catch a few rays of sun. Bernadettes' spot of choice during the show: right up beside the gold medalist himself Rembrandt. I hunted her down, outside, saying hi to Paradox ( a statue created in 1993 in memory of ...
