Intensity

Image
This "in-between commission" drawing has been fantastic learning curve. Very intense. I pushed myself out of the very comfy zone I always draw in into a new dimension. Gave myself the challenge of portraying a stunning horse in all its beauty and strength through a dramatic cropped composition. All I had to play with loads of textures, light and lines. Very addictive way of working. Can't wait to re-offend! Intensity 34 x 54 cm Pencil on Paper Sheona Hamilton-Grant. All rights reserved.

Pull forth

Last week, like so many weeks, went by in a bright spinning flash (there is such a thing... really!) The trendy "dreaded lurgy- virus thingy" paid us all individual visits and tried it's damnedest to cool my hard fought back resolution of getting back into the swing of things. It tried... and failed. Now finished, with revisited lessons in mental focus, how to embrace loose strokes, speeding up, drawing from the "gut" and foreshortening, is Pull Forth. A fab way of warming up the pencils! "Pull Forth" Pencil on Paper 38x26 cm Up next: one gorgeous mare

Freshening up my mojo

Image
It's January, the month of new beginnings . Fresh starts. Things are going well in the studio and that's just it: they are ticking along smoothly. Time for a " spice up" . To boost my mojo . To re-asses. On the plan this month: Step out of my comfort zone .  Notch up my pencils to a new level. Dare to make mistakes Try a new technic , a new approach, new pencils. Slow down and feed my inspiration the good old fashioned way: curled up on the sofa books and magazines in hand; : AWAY from the computer from the fast lane of image overflow! Visit the art museum. The space, the light, the art are pure eye candy and a wonderful way to feed my artist soul. Make mistakes but make a start: pick up my pencils fearlessly Watch this space it should be interesting…. "Normality" is within reach

The end of a hectic three weeks is near; within touching distance. A wee lean foward and I'll be able to feel smooth reassuring vibes... Two week-ends of shows/exhibition and a mile stone "Back to School" have been at the forefront of my life. Unforgiving Generals in command of all my moves, thoughts and decisions...  I'll say no more. Drawings hanging in the club house under the watchful eye of wee "Taxi". Last week-end, my pencil drawings made their annual appearance in the   Ostenfelde  club-house for the annual  Ostenfelde Kutschfahrturnier  show.  They were hung alongside the brilliant work of fellow artist  Dirk Gross  for three days of showing. Dirk's work is exceptional. Poles apart from my black and white realism.  His paintings ooze energy, reel the viewer into an novel abstract world. Into a world brimming with new life, normality having crumbled at the way side in the wake of soul searching co...
